GOLF’S FUTURE STARS PREPARE FOR FALDO SERIES EUROPE GRAND FINAL IN ABU DHABI

(Al Ain, UAE – November 12th 2019): Over 70 junior golfers from 18 different countries are today preparing for one of the most important weeks of their golfing careers at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, Abu Dhabi, where they will tee it up hoping to be crowned Faldo Series Europe Champion.

The culmination of a season-long event, the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final will see competitors descend on the course for three days of fierce competition, before the winners are crowned across five respective age and gender categories.

Since the European Series got under way at Al Ain in March, more than 2,000 young hopefuls have competed across 20 qualifying events around the world, in their bid to return to the Abu Dhabi venue for a chance to claim one of junior golf’s most coveted prizes.

Amongst the field in Abu Dhabi are several notable names, including Taiwanese junior Chang Hsin Chiao, who will be aiming to follow her Asia victory with another at the Europe Grand Final. Pavol Mach, winner of the Slovakia Championship at Black Stork Golf Resort which celebrated its 10th Faldo Series anniversary this year, will also compete at Al Ain, alongside Jordan Duminy, this year’s newly crowned South Africa Champion and upcoming Junior Presidents Cup player.  The Series also celebrated 10-year anniversaries in Germany and Czech Republic this year.

In its 23rd year, the Faldo Series aids the world’s best juniors’ development through elite competition and aims to grow the game by staging events in less-established golfing nations. The Grand Final has since become one of the most prestigious titles in junior golf.

Sir Nick Faldo, Founder of the Faldo Series, commented: “The Faldo Series dates back to 1996, the year of my sixth and final major. That summer, I unveiled a new concept designed to give talented juniors more chances to play in elite competitions, and I’m so proud of how it’s grown to become one of the stand-out events for junior golfers.

“We set out to create an event that all juniors would want, and aspire, to play. One that could prove to be an important role in their development, along with sharpening up their competitive mindset and preparing them for the future challenges they might face in trying to make it in professional golf. I think we’re well on our way to achieving our goals with the Series and in the last 23 years we’ve seen some truly great players come through the ranks.

“I’ve kept a close eye on scoring this year, and from some of the numbers posted in qualifying, I think we may have one of the most talented classes yet. I’m looking forward to meeting the competitors and welcoming them to Al Ain.”

The Series offers a rare opportunity for the very best juniors from each country to test themselves against their contemporaries from other nations, on some of the best courses in the world. Each stage is played at immaculate Championship courses around Europe in the lead up to the Grand Final at Al Ain.

The event has proven to be a breeding ground for Europe’s best. Many of the Faldo Series’ former players and winners have gone on to reach the very top-level, including European Tour stars Jordan Smith and Eddie Pepperell, LET and LPGA Tour player Melissa Reid and four-time Major champion and Ryder Cup hero Rory McIlroy.  Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, played by thousands of golfers each year.
