Interview with Rashid Khan
Q: How did it feel to win the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final for a second time in 2009?
A: I was very happy and overwhelmed to win the second time, not just as the first Asian golfer but also as the first Indian.
Q: The finish was much closer in 2009 than in 2008, with you needing a birdie to win on the last hole – how did you feel during those final moments?
A: I was told that I needed a birdie to win because the other player had chipped in for an eagle. I just laughed and then chipped close for my birdie. It was a great moment.
Q: How was your 2009 season following your Faldo Series Asia win in March?
A: The win at Mission Hills made me more confident and thereafter I won the Singapore amateur and six tournaments in a row on the Indian amateur circuit.
Q: As the Faldo Series Asia champion you were invited to play in the Cambodian Open on the Asian Tour. How was this experience?
A: Despite my best efforts I missed the cut by one stroke and that was disappointing.
Q: Has winning the Faldo Series Asia not once but twice helped or changed you in any way?
A: Yes it was a great confidence booster and has changed my life for the better.
Q: Do you believe you can become the first Faldo Series player to win a Grand Final three times in a row in March?
A: Yes I believe I can and I will definitely try.
Q: Does it get easier or more difficult to win the Faldo Series Asia each time?
A: It becomes more and more difficult each time as there is fresh talent and new challenges.
Q: What have you learned or gained from spending time with Nick Faldo?
A: Sir Nick told me to stay focussed, enjoy the game while on the course, not put myself under pressure and avoid getting angry. I have followed that advice ever since and the results are there to see.
Q: What age did you start golf and how did you get into it?
A: I started at the age of 9 when my uncle who is a professional introduced me to the game. I left school in 2005 [aged 14] to play golf.
