Black Sand

Olfus, Iceland

Faldo Design’s undertaking of this project near Reykjavik is a clear reflection of Nick Faldo’s intention to create a genuinely global design portfolio. Upon its completion, Black Sand is set to become the world’s most northerly situated championship links course.

Faldo's thoughts:

“The prospect of working on this design has always been an extremely appealing one for me, not least of all because of its exciting location in a country that is fast becoming a serious golfing nation. The site itself is very reminiscent of the classic links courses of Scotland and those are exactly the kinds of golfing experiences that I have always enjoyed the most. Getting my teeth into a real links-style design like this is very exciting and, whilst the project is currently very much in its infancy, I’m confident that we can produce a spectacular golf course. There are some very interesting features here – not least of all the black volcanic sand that will make up the bunkers – and I’m confident that this course will help to put Icelandic golf firmly on the map.”
